Are you a communist?

A recent poll conducted by the Fraser Institute in the UK, US, Australia and Canada, found that 29 percent, 20 percent, 20 percent and 13 percent of 18-34 year olds in those countries respectively regard communism as the “ideal economic system”. Had these polls been conducted elsewhere, no doubt they would have revealed similar figures all over the globe.

This means that there are literally millions of potential communists on every continent. But being a communist isn’t just about agreeing with communist ideas. As Marx explained, “the philosophers have only interpreted the world in various ways; the point, however, is to change it.” The capitalist class will not give up their power voluntarily. And as capitalism drags the world towards an abyss of war, impoverishment, hunger, and above all climate catastrophe, we know that we are in a race against time – a race to organise these millions of others into a fighting organisation that can overthrow the capitalist system and finally build a communist future for humanity: a future worthy of human beings.

We have made exceptional progress in recent years. But now we need your help to achieve this task. Get in touch and we will put you in contact with a branch of the RCI near you. The revolution needs you – join us!

Our editorial team are regularly updating the following feed, consisting of reports of the work of our comrades on every continent, to give you a flavour of the kind of activity RCI comrades are engaged in around the globe.

The year 2025 is turning into a decisive year. What seemed fixed and stable before is crumbling and in flux now. Millions of workers and youth are seeking to understand why. The revolutionary communists alone have clear answers. At this year’s International Workers’ Day protests on 1 May, we intervened in greater numbers than ever before with these answers. We include here a selection of reports that show how the revolutionary communists are beginning to turn the heads of a growing number of radicalised workers and youth.

This year’s 25 April celebration, marking eighty years since Italy’s liberation from fascism, was one of the most well-attended in recent times, with hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets across Italy. In town squares across the country, we saw Palestinian flags, overwhelming enthusiasm, and young people and workers eager to discuss how to change the situation.

Since 1889, May Day has been taken up by the workers of the world as a day of celebration and struggle for the emancipation of labour. In this year of unprecedented crisis for the capitalist order, the Revolutionary Communist International sends its revolutionary greetings to our readers and to all those organising for socialist revolution around the world.

From 11 to 13 April, the First Congress of the Revolutionary Communist Party (PCR) in Italy was held in Cervia. Exactly one year earlier, the political organisation Sinistra Classe Rivoluzione decided to establish itself as a party and raise the flag of revolutionary communism, calling together all young people and workers ready to do battle against the capitalist system. A year later, the exciting growth of the party's forces and the tumultuous development of events on a global scale offer the best confirmation of the courageous choice we made and the political perspectives on which we base our action.

On 30 November and 1 December, over 160 activists took part in the founding congress of the Revolutionary Communist Party (PCR), held in Ivry-sur-Seine. Comrades came from the Paris region, Toulouse, Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Montpellier, Grenoble, Reims, Gap, Lyon, Rennes, Morlaix, Brest, Nantes, Lille, Bourges, Dax, Cherbourg and Val d'Ajol.

On 23 November, more than 500 comrades from across Italy filled the rooms of the Frentani Congress Centre in Rome for the launch of the Revolutionary Communist Party (PCR). This meeting was the culmination of a months-long political campaign, stretching from Trento to Messina; but, above all, it represented a new beginning and an appeal to anyone who wants to mobilise against inequality, war and the innumerable forms of oppression engendered by the capitalist system.

This year’s Revolution Festival – a school of communism organised by the RCP – saw 1,000 communists gather for a weekend of anti-imperialist and Marxist discussion. This landmark event is a launchpad for building the forces of communism in Britain.

On 27 October, Revolutionary Communist University 2024: The Power of Ideas came to a close. This was the second ever Arabic-language school organised by the Revolutionary Communist International. Arabic speakers from Mauritania to Syria sang The Internationaleto celebrate three excellent days of talks and discussions on various theoretical and political topics relevant to the struggle of communists in the Arabic-speaking world.

War in Ukraine, war in the Middle East and a huge global pro-Palestine movement: there is no shortage of reasons to overthrow imperialism, and no lack of willingness to do so. But, as the last year has taught us, this is anything but easy. Defeating the imperialists requires absolute political clarity and concrete perspectives.

On Saturday, 340 communists from all over Austria, as well as guests from neighbouring countries, came together in Vienna for the founding of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RKP). The purpose of this new party is to overthrow capitalism and build a society without exploitation, misery and oppression.

With so much crisis and chaos in the world today, more and more people are turning to the internet for answers about what communism really is. But there’s a lot of propaganda and misinformation out there, so this week we’ve brought on leading RCI member Fred Weston for the Communism Autocomplete Interview: answering the most common questions people are typing into Google about what communists believe, what we want, and how we’re fighting for it!
