At the start of February, as Trump was amassing his armada in the Persian Gulf, as the people of Minnesota engaged in head on struggle with ICE, as the crimes of the ruling class in the Epstein files left the world aghast – 90 leading revolutionary communists from around the world gathered in Italy.

After a month of panic in the Colombian press, 3 February finally arrived and passed. The meeting between Petro and Trump has been considered a great success and a demonstration of the merits of diplomacy and moderation. During a ‘special visit’ to the White House, Petro and Trump had a meeting lasting one hour and forty minutes, during which Trump ended up flattering the Colombian president, saying he was a “very nice guy.”

Over the last month, we have seen shocking images come out of Syria. ISIS flags waving over Raqqah. Jihadist militants knocking over the gravestones of Kurdish fighters. When it was set up, the Kurdish statelet of Rojava inspired people worldwide. Later, they beat back ISIS. Now ISIS have returned, and the Kurds are fighting for their lives. How has it come to this?

Wellred Books and the Revolutionary Communist International are proud to launch the third volume of Ted Grant's Collected Writings. To introduce the book, Rob Sewell, who worked closely with Ted in building the organisation that would become the Revolutionary Communist International, explains the significance of his writings and their importance to communists today.

In the summer of 1905, Sweden and Norway were on the brink of war. The Swedish bourgeois press wrote about the ‘revolution’ and ‘coup d'état’ in Norway. King Oscar II refused to recognise Norway's declaration of independence, and thousands of conservatives gathered in Stockholm to demonstrate and demand punishment for the Norwegians. Swedish troops were called in, fortresses were armed, and the general staff requested time to plan an invasion of Norway.

The term “rules-based international order” is on everyone’s lips these days. Liberal commentators have accused Trump of not respecting it, with his threats to annex Greenland.

In the definition of chameleon in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, we find, among several characteristics, its “unusual ability to change the colour of the skin”. We also find synonyms for chameleon, such as “opportunist” and “weathercock” – “a person or thing that changes readily or often”, and “a person who often changes their beliefs or behaviour in order to please others or to succeed.”

A lot is said about Hugo Chávez and the Bolivarian Revolution. The billionaire-owned media cry out indignantly that he was a dictator who ruined life for ordinary Venezuelans. But over the course of his presidency, he won a total of 19 democratic elections and referendums with record voter turnout – how many bourgeois politicians can claim the same?

Since Donald Trump was elected in November 2024, a historic diplomatic crisis has opened up between the United States and Denmark over the question of who controls Greenland. Trump, on the one hand, views Greenland and the Arctic in general as a key strategic area for US interests. The Danish ruling class, meanwhile, sees their Greenlandic colony as their ‘golden ticket’ to the White House, without which their position on the international stage would be diminished to the level of complete insignificance.

Faust, the epic play by Goethe, is one of the greatest works of art of all time. It has intrigued and inspired generations across the world and will continue to do so for generations to come. In this article, Josh Holroyd explores some of the key themes of this dialectical masterpiece, including human nature, the struggle for knowledge, and the relationship between good and evil.

January 2026 saw some of the most significant developments in the recent history of the American class struggle. The ICE murder of Renee Good set off an explosive anti-ICE movement, culminating in a de facto political general strike. The subsequent murder of Alex Pretti threatened to spread the movement nationally, forcing Trump to back off, at least temporarily. What conclusions can we draw from this experience?

The sequence of events triggered by the imperialist aggression against Venezuela led to the Venezuelan National Assembly’s approval, on 29 January, of a partial reform of the country’s Chávez-era hydrocarbons law. Immediately afterwards, the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which is responsible for sanctions, published General License 46, partially lifting sanctions on Venezuelan oil, albeit with very strict restrictions.

The creation of the Alliance of Sahel States (Alliance des États du Sahel, or AES) in September 2023, following a series of military coups in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, marked an important turning point in African politics. With this step, the three nations broke decisively from the western sphere of influence, and particularly that of their former colonial overlord, France.
