It is with great pleasure that we introduce the second edition of this volume, which is being published alongside a new edition of the second volume, as well as a brand new third volume covering the years 1945-46.

The edition features a newly uncovered article, ‘Perspectives in the ILP’, written by the Political Bureau of the RCP and published in the Internal Bulletin of the party in June 1944. Apart from this, the contents remain the same as the first edition published in 2012, including the introduction by Rob Sewell.

Documents of the WIL/RCP Political Bureau were mostly drafted by Ted, though they would have had input from other members and can be considered the fruit of collective effort. Ted, however, was the main driving force.

Socialist Appeal often published articles without an author credit, however Ted’s distinctive style can be discerned. Where authorship is known, this is indicated in the article.

All texts have been checked against the original documents and are published here in their original form, except for evident typing errors that have been corrected and formatting characters that have been standardised throughout. Where editorial insertions were necessary for clarification, they have been introduced in square brackets [ ].
