Millions of people are facing death by starvation because of the high cost of food. However, this is no problem for some. The most expensive meal per head was consumed on July 8, 2001 in London. Six diners at the Petrus Restaurant in London spent £44,007 (approximately $88,000) on one meal. The bill consisted mainly of five bottles of wine – including a 1947 vintage claret costing £12,000 (about $24,000). As a sign of gratitude for such custom, the restaurant decided not to charge for the mere £300 food bill.
