On December 4th, 2008, as part of the 40th anniversary of the 1968 students' movement and of the formation of the ESIME Struggle Committee (CLESIME), students and former students from different generations of fighters who belonged to the CLESIME, and members of the CLEP-CEDEP, unveiled a commemoration plaque in lecture hall 4 of the ESIME (High School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering), which was also renamed as "Hector Jaramillo" Lecture Hall after one of the founders of CLESIME who disappeared after being kidnapped by the Army in 1969. The CLESIME played a key role in the 1968 students movement in Mexico and went on to become the CLEP (Polytechnic Struggle Committee) organising students from across the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). Many generations of revolutionary activists were trained in the ranks of the CLEP over the years, and the organisation always had a conscious policy of linking the struggle for immediate student demands with the more general struggle for socialism, by linking up with the workers' movement. In 2006 the CLEP joined forces with the Student Committee in Defence of State Education (CEDEP) becoming a single united organisation. The comrades of the Marxist Tendency Militante have played a leading role in both organisations, and many of the founders of Militante came from the CLESIME.
