“I have been right about everything.” Thus spoke Donald Trump very modestly about himself as he addressed the General Assembly of the United Nations on Tuesday 23 September.

If it is enough to arm oneself with a pistol in order to achieve one’s goal, why the efforts of the class struggle? If a thimbleful of gunpowder and a little chunk of lead is enough to shoot the enemy through the neck, what need is there for a class organization?

According to Red Scare mythology, communism is an “anti-American” doctrine that threatens “democracy” and “freedom.” Trump recently proclaimed that communism is “a philosophy that this country is not ready for and never will be.”

The cracks in Trump’s cross-class coalition are growing into a chasm. Wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, the failure of Trump’s trade war, a sluggish economy headed for disaster, and persistent inflation have fractured MAGA. Now the Jeffrey Epstein scandal threatens to tear it apart.

The Revolutionary Communists of America reject Trump’s cynical efforts to make the workers of the world pay for the crisis of American capitalism. Like a crazed wizard, the president imagines that by waving the menacing wand of tariffs, the rest of the world will fall into line, and the insoluble contradictions of his system will be magically resolved.

On June 21, Trump took the momentous step of bombing three nuclear sites in Iran with “bunker-busting” Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOP) and Tomahawk missiles. This was the largest attack by the US on Iran in modern history.

In a major political upset, Zohran Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has won the Democratic primary for New York City mayor. The 33-year-old defeated former governor and establishment favorite, Andrew Cuomo, winning 43% of the first-choice votes against Cuomo’s 36%. As the Wall Street Journalobserved, “the epicenter of global capitalism may soon have a socialist mayor.”

The past few weeks have brought the US government deficit into sharp focus. After decades of large budget deficits, the banks and insurance companies are starting to worry that even the US government is no longer a reliable borrower.

A week has passed since Trump ramped up his reign of terror against immigrant workers and their families. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids on workplaces, schools, and hospitals have intensified, with the White House tripling ICE’s daily quota for arrests from 1,000 to 3,000.

The Wall Street Journalinterviewed comrade Mia Jimenez – a member of the Revolutionary Communists of America in Los Angeles – for a June 11 article titled “A Veteran, a Construction Worker, a Communist: The Many Faces of the L.A. Protests.” Naturally, the Journal’s coverage was shallow and skewed by bourgeois ideology. Comrade Mia gives her side of the story below.

Over the weekend of June 6, Los Angeles was subject to a coordinated series of raids by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE). Militarized federal agents armed with assault rifles and teargas grenade launchers were assisted by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Dozens of officers descended on workplaces in immigrant-dense working-class neighborhoods in downtown and East Los Angeles, arresting at least 44 people.

460 communists gathered in Philadelphia on May 31 and June 1, 2025, for the Second National Congress of the Revolutionary Communists of America. Delegates from 33 cities were present, with visitors from several dozen more. Every major region of the United States was represented, from Seattle to Atlanta, New York to Los Angeles, Chicago to Dallas. The Congress was also thrilled to have guests from Canada and Quebec, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, as well as the International Secretariat of the Revolutionary Communist International in London.

In February, the Trump administration announced the “Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism.” Its supposed goal is “to root out antisemitic harassment in schools and on college campuses.” In reality, it’s nothing but a smokescreen for attacks on democratic rights and cuts to education funding.

On 12 May, little more than a month after Trump launched massive tariffs on China on 2 April, a ceasefire in the US-China trade war was declared. The crippling tariffs, which effectively meant each country’s economy was sealed off from the other, have now been paused for 90 days.
