Pakistan: While the People are Hungry, there is no Real Independence! - BNT protests on Independence Day

On August 14th, 2009 when the ruling classes were celebrating Independence Day the unemployed youth movement held protests throughout the country under the main slogan “jab tak janta bhooki hay, yeh azadi jhooti hay” which means ‘While the people are hungry, there is no real independence!’

BNT protests on independence dayThe protests were held at Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Khairpur, Nathan Shah, Johi, Khairpur Mirus, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kot Addu, Multan, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Islamabad, Wah, Attock, Rawalakot, Palandri and Muzaffarabad whereas camps were held at Bannu, Sadiqabad, Rahim yar Khan and Sargodha under the same slogan.

A huge number of unemployed youth, students and workers from different industrial sectors participated in these protests and raised slogans against unemployment, poverty, privatization and against the capitalist system. There were also slogans in favour of the socialist revolution. During the protests, people from different walks of life joined the rallies and appreciated the kind of activities that gave strength to the movement and also increased the morale of the comrades.

In their speeches, participants promised that this struggle would continue until the capitalist system is abolished through a world socialist revolution that will lead to the communist future of mankind.
