Africa's Pinochet: The case Hissène Habré and the role of US Imperialism On Monday 30th May, a special tribunal in Dakar, Senegal, convicted former Chadian dictator, Hissène Habré on several criminal charges including crimes against humanity, committed during his brutal eight years in power. He was also convicted of war crimes, rape, sexual slavery, torture and kidnapping. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
No Blood for Oil – EU Soldiers out of Chad! France is about to lead an EU military mission to Chad. It is being presented as a "humanitarian" mission. In reality it is part of a conflict between the major imperialist powers, among them China, for control of the country's resources. It is part of a wider picture involving all the major powers fighting for control of Africa's wealth and it is the duty of workers in all countries to oppose this.
